Balancing nature, climate and people at sea: Nature-positive Offshore Wind Panel Discussion
Thursday, 3rd October, 11.30AM - 1.00PM
European parliament, Brussels
Join us for an exciting discussion about the role of offshore wind to achieve the EU’s climate and energy targets and how the deployment of this infrastructure must be done in harmony with other blue economy sectors and in support of thriving nature in our seas.
The event will start with a presentation of WWF’s latest assessment on the state of play of offshore wind in the EU and whether Member States’ projected deployment has put us on track to deliver the Paris Agreement goal of keeping global warming below 1.5°C.
A panel of experts will then explore opportunities for improving the coexistence of human activities at sea as offshore wind expands, and how different maritime sectors can contribute to practical solutions for restoring nature along with the energy transition.
Panel discussion with:
Felix Leinemann, Head of Unit - Blue Economy Sectors, Aquaculture and Maritime Spatial Planning at European Commission
Malgosia Bartosik, Deputy CEO at WindEurope
Cristina Simioli, Director Offshore Energy and Nature at Renewables Grid Initiative
Rosalie Tukker, Senior Policy Advisor at Europêche
Marta Cavallé, Executive Secretary at Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE)
Anouk Puymartin, Policy Manager at BirdLife Europe & Central Asia
Moderator: Dr Antonia Leroy, Head of EU Ocean Policy, WWF EU
Organised by WWF European Policy Office (WWF EU) and BirdLife Europe & Central Asia.
